Program Purpose

Why This Scholarship Exists

Most scholarships reward the highest absolute scores. This program recognizes something different: sustained effort, measurable academic growth, and the discipline to improve over time.

Disciplined preparation

Disciplined preparation is recognized

This scholarship values sustained study habits and thoughtful effort, not just a final score.

Measurable growth

Measurable growth is rewarded

Students who show real academic progress over time and take ownership of how they improve are strongest.

College readiness

College readiness is supported

Awards help students as they move closer to applications, enrollment, and the next stage of their education.

Requirements

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements before submitting an application.

International applicants welcome

International applicants may apply if they meet all eligibility requirements and can provide the required documentation in English.

Parent or guardian consent if under 18

Applicants under 18 must submit a signed parent or guardian consent form. Without it, the application is considered incomplete.

Selection Criteria

What We Look For

Every complete application is evaluated across four published criteria with defined weights. Below is exactly what the selection committee reviews.

4 published criteria · Defined weights · Applied to all complete applications

Consistency
30% — Consistency

Disciplined study over time

We value applicants who demonstrate regular participation and sustained effort over their preparation period, not just peak sessions.

Academic Growth
25% — Academic Growth

Measurable score progress

We evaluate improvement relative to a student's starting point. Meaningful growth in any range is recognized — not only high absolute scores.

Reflection Quality
25% — Reflection Quality

Clear, honest self-assessment

Strong applicants explain how they studied, what changed in their approach, and what they learned about themselves as learners.

Future College Readiness
20% — Future College Readiness

Thoughtful planning for next steps

We consider whether the applicant shows genuine preparation for the next stage of their academic journey, including planning, goals, and follow-through.

Applications are reviewed holistically. Relevant personal, financial, or educational context may also be considered during final review.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered here, contact us.

Current high school students in grades 9–12, as well as approved gap-year applicants preparing for college entry within the next 12 months, may apply. All applicants must have used the BreakMyScore platform actively for at least 8 consecutive weeks and must be able to provide both a starting diagnostic score and a final score. International students are welcome if they meet all requirements and can submit documentation in English.
An official SAT score is preferred, but verified practice scores may be accepted when official scores are not yet available. If you have not yet taken the official SAT, you may submit a verified BreakMyScore practice score as a substitute for your final score. You must still provide a starting diagnostic score as your baseline. Both a starting score and a later score are required for evaluation regardless of type. A verified practice score is a BreakMyScore practice exam result that is confirmed and recorded in your account. All other eligibility requirements, including the 8-week platform usage minimum and the reflection essay, apply regardless of score type. Review the Required Materials section for full documentation details.
Yes. Selection is based on multiple factors, including consistency, growth, reflection quality, and college readiness. A higher starting score does not provide an advantage and is not required. The selection committee evaluates progress relative to where each student began, so meaningful improvement from any starting point is recognized and valued equally.
No. The application asks for a reflection essay about your study experience and personal growth — not a product review, endorsement, or testimonial of any kind. Reviews of BreakMyScore, whether positive or negative, are not part of the application and have no effect on evaluation. This policy is stated in our Transparency and Fair Selection principles and applies to every applicant.
Recipients are selected through a structured review process using four published criteria: consistency (30%), academic growth (25%), reflection quality (25%), and college readiness (20%). Relevant personal, financial, or educational context may also be considered during final review. All complete applications are reviewed by the same committee against the same framework. No single criterion eliminates an applicant — all four are weighted and applied holistically to produce a final evaluation.
Scholarship funds are paid directly to recipients via check or electronic transfer. When applicable and at the recipient's request, funds may also be directed toward approved education-related expenses such as college application fees or enrollment deposits. Payment is issued after finalist verification is complete. See the full scholarship terms for detailed payment conditions and timelines.
Yes. International applicants may apply if they meet all eligibility requirements, can provide the required documentation in English, and have actively used the BreakMyScore platform for the required 8-week period. There are no citizenship or residency restrictions. However, international recipients are responsible for any tax obligations or currency conversion requirements in their country of residence.
No. This scholarship is an independent academic recognition award administered solely by BreakMyScore. It does not guarantee college admission, financial aid, or any other institutional decision from any college or university. While recipients may choose to list this award on their applications, BreakMyScore has no affiliation with or influence over any admissions process.
Application materials are used only for scholarship review and program administration. They are not shared with third parties, used for marketing purposes, or made public without permission. Any future sharing of recipient stories, testimonials, or interviews is entirely voluntary and requires separate written consent from the recipient. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the selection committee. All required materials — personal information, score documentation, reflection essay, and consent form (if under 18) — must be submitted before the deadline. You may save your progress and return to complete your application at any time before the deadline. See the Application Timeline for exact dates. We recommend reviewing the checklist before submitting.
Yes. If you miss the Summer 2026 deadline, you are welcome to apply in a future cycle, provided one is announced. Future cycles will have their own timelines and requirements, which will be published on this page. Eligibility requirements, including the 8-week platform usage minimum, must be met at the time of that cycle's application period.
Yes. All application information is treated as confidential and used exclusively for scholarship evaluation and program administration. Personal details, scores, and reflection essays are not shared publicly or with third parties. If a recipient is announced by name, that is done only with the recipient's prior written consent. Full data handling practices are described in our Privacy Policy.
You will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided in your application once your submission is complete. This email confirms that all required materials were received. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours of submitting, check your spam folder and contact us. You will not receive status updates during the review period.
Yes. Students who access BreakMyScore through a school account, teacher-assigned plan, or institutional license are eligible to apply, provided they meet all other requirements. The 8-week usage minimum applies to your personal activity on the platform, regardless of how your account was created. Your application is individual and evaluated independently of your school or teacher.
Integrity

Transparency and Fair Selection

This scholarship operates under four principles that apply to every application, every cycle.

Selection is based on published criteria

All applications are reviewed using the same stated selection framework. The weighting for each criterion is public and applied consistently across all applicants.

Product reviews do not affect evaluation

Applicants are not asked to submit favorable reviews in order to qualify or be selected. Review submissions have no effect on application evaluation.

Public stories are always optional

Any future interview, testimonial, or recipient feature is voluntary and requires separate written permission. No applicant is required to participate in any promotional activity.

No admissions outcome is guaranteed

Receiving this award may be meaningful to applicants, but it does not guarantee admission, financial aid, or any institutional decision from any college or university.

These principles apply to every cycle without exception.
